MOONBEAM
i don't know what i wanna be yet but i can show that i need to see this no time for lies and empty fights i'm on your side
The silver bengal strolled upon the rocky cliffs of Ember Mountain. Her yellow opticals scanned the surrounding terrain. All was silent. Moonbeam enjoyed the silence. It meant she had nothing to worry about. There was no danger, no excitement, no one around. It felt like some unobtained freedom. She breathed in the crisp air, scenting the breeze for any sign of another's presence. All she could scent was the earthy smell of the face of the mountain and the dawn-streaked sky. Her paws balanced carefully upon the trechearous stones, maintaining her balance with her tail. Moonbeam was simply sight-seeing, daydreaming. It was one of the few things she enjoyed. She had a fairly unfullfilled social life and perferred to remain alone rather than with a group. She could hear faint discussions from her Clan, but she ignored them. No one would be looking for her.
She was not far up the mountain, only a few feet. She had desired to ascend higher, but the darkness of night had closed up upon her. She didn't want to be caught in the dark, alone. She had excellent night vision, but she perferred to be resting in a warm nest. Her belly was still warm from the vole she'd eaten a half hour earlier. Hunting was going fairly well, but not as good as Moonbeam, or the rest of the Clan would have liked. Prey was getting a bit scarce. She stole a glance at the red washed sky and let out a slow sigh before padding down from her position upon the cliff. Her paw pads had grown hard from trodding upon the rocky surface of the terra and she didn't feel the sharp stones pooking into the skin of her paws.

Cinderheart stepped daintily out of the nursery and into the cool embrace of night. She sucked in a long breath, then let out a content sigh, as she escaped the suffocating heat of the nursery den. Her pricked ears heard not a single thing, whereas they were constant figures of amusement to her kits while she was inside the den. But now she had wriggled out of the clutches of their vice-like grip and exalted at this. The two adorable bundles of fur – Applekit and Sunkit – were now wrapped nice and snug in the corner of their shelter, completely unaware that their mother had left them alone.
The pale amber she-cat was a ghostly form in the light of the drowning sun. Her fur glowed white-gold, with dapples of scarlet painting her back and eyes. A soft breeze played with her silken fur, swishing it to and fro. A cold moon rose, still pale and washed out. She watched it, her glassy amber eyes round as the moon itself. Then she swept her gaze over all of her surroundings, taking in the sights of her Clan’s territory. The high lofty peaks of the mountains, the dark basalt that spilled over the still active volcano, Ember Mountain, the dry free lands where no being stirred. It was all very peaceful here. Like death.
Suddenly, she started, her head snapping up. A shiver racked her spine. Was that her who dared mention de- the d-word? Another shiver, and this was definitely not from the chill that had settled. In a short fit of paranoia, she cast her wild glance about but saw nothing. She sniffed tentatively. She smelled nothing. Slowly, the fur along the nape of her neck was laid flat, her bristling fur halted. She relaxed her hunched shoulders and stretched out her legs. It would be a long and luxurious walk, perhaps, a stroll around the territory then back to bed.
Cinderheart gave a shaky sigh of content. Her paws, weary from the day’s chasing of her kits, began to loosen up as she quickened her gait. Soon she was sprinting along the sharp terrain of the obsidian-drizzled Ember Mountain. Tiny pebbles embedded themselves between the pads of her paws, but they soon dropped out as she adjusted the positioning of her paw slapping the earth. Her gossamer-furred tail swung around as she dipped into a curve. As she rose in elevation, she caught a brief look at the world below. Everything appeared miniscule and harmless. The patrols were black specks on the dark ground, like ants in a sea of black rock. The jagged chasm rightly dubbed Drop Canyon was like a nick in an ear. The wide ocean seemed like a puddle that formed when the rains of Newleaf arrived.
But staring at this beauty for too long proved dangerous; the queen nearly lost her footing but managed to stumble up higher still. Now she concentrated on the path, which grew steeper as she climbed. Here, the trail branched off and ended in steep rock faces that one had to leap to clear. But she gave up. She was aging now; she was no longer the young and fresh she-cat she was in her younger days. Instead, she gaped at the sights, her eyes widening further than ever thought possible. Abruptly, they alit upon a dark figure below. Scrambling closer, she saw it was the silhouette of a cat. Pebbles skittered downhill as she approached.
It was Moonbeam, a silver Bengal she-cat she hardly knew. Although in this pitch blackness, her silver stripes were barely discernable. But still, one could tell they were silver. In fact, the moon reflected its brilliance, dazzling Cinderheart’s eyes. Her breath coming fast, Cinderheart greeted her with,
“Hello, Moonbeam! Lovely night for a stroll isn’t it? How’d you avoid the patrol?” The queen beamed a warm smile at the other, not realizing how shy they were.
"Cinderheart speaks" Cinderheart ponders Cinderheart does Word Count 653 Tags Moonbeam Ooc D-word meaning death, haha.
