Newleaf. Clear, freshness was in the air, with the smell of budding leaves and the sound of birds chirping in their nests was a soothing sound the ears of the Soulclan Deputy. He walked out of the warrior's den with gracefulness and pride, his gait was like an lions, smooth and lean, with powerful energy in each step and a keen sense of pure brawn to the white male. Breathing in, he took a deep breath of the clean morning air. It wasn't too late in the day, and the sky was clear, showing the bright yellow sun with its milky cream colors mixing in the blue sky that was forming across the horizon. Sitting down in the middle of the camp, Icelcaw made a loud yowl. It was time for the morning hunting patrol, and he wanted to get out and hunting before
the day turned to the afternoon and the heat was unbearable for the white, thick furred tom. Fadedstripe, Leafwhisper, Crowpaw, and Jaypaw! Iceclaw yowled out, his voice rising over the camp and through the dens so the other cats could hear them. Getting up, Iceclaw traveled to the apprentice's den. Sticking his head in the den he snorted lightly. Crowpaw, Jaypaw, get up! He said sharply, but a pleasant tone was behind his order. Moving out of the den, he headed towards the warriors den and did the same to Fadedstripe and Leafwhisper. After that, the male walked back to his seat in the middle of the camp. Iceclaw sat there with his chest out, his medium long fur waved in the light breeze that mother nature gave the land.
Smiling, he was in an okay. He was excited to take his clan out and see how strong they actually were. Especially the apprentices, Iceclaw wanted to see where they were at and how far their training was. Plus, he wanted to get his energy out, and the taste of blood was something that he wanted to taste for awhile. Preferably another cat but Iceclaw wasn't going to go on another clan's territory for a fight, but the next time he caught another cat on his land a fight would be brought on. Sitting there thinking, his mind went off towards Silverclaw and a sadness came over him. Sighing, his heart beat against his chest as it ached from his lost love, and the white tom couldn't even mourn properly over his mate. At least two out of the three kits she had are
growing up in Soulclan, awhile Mothkit went with Seapaw and left Rainkit and Mosskit with him. His grazed moved over to the nursery. Rainkit looked exactly like him, just a short furred version and female. He gave a unhappy sigh, and he realized his kits would grow up never knowing who their father is and what their mother was like. Iceclaw wondered how good of a mother Silverclaw would have been, and his heart just hurt more as he thought about the silver tabby. Flicking his tail in annoyance from his depression thoughts, Iceclaw came to an conclusion she would have been an wonderful mother and he would be a wonderful father. I promise to watch over the kits as if they knew. Iceclaw said to himself, as he waited for the other to show.

The warriors morning started early, he didn't have time to sleep! There was work to be done, all other lazy cats could sleep the day away but not Leafwhisper! Muscular tabby tom carried himself into camp, each step landing sending dust up into the air. In the large toms jaws he carried two rats and mouse, he passed right by the solid white deputy without a glance, he was focused on his catch and feeding his clan to even care. Dropping the prey he licked his muzzle, without so much as a flinch he heared his name as well as a few others.
"Fadedstripe, Leafwhisper, Crowpaw, and Jaypaw!"
'A patrol? Just what i needed!' he thought to himself and flicked his ear. Leafwhisper was what one would call a workaholic, his mornings started before sunrise, and his days lasted longer then most others. Brokenhearted tom would stop at nothing to protect his clan and he overworked himself to prove it. Providing for SoulClan was his top priority, and he refused to take a break and be lazy, there was work to be done and he was going to do it!
His name was called once more and the silent tom swayed his tail, looking toward the Deputy. Leaf green eyes blazed as he watched the tom cross to the nursery, what was he so interested in? Shrugging the bulky tom made his way toward the snow white cat and lifted his head up to look at him. Opening his mouth a sound hardly audible escaped his maw, "Yes Iceclaw?" he asked, the tom may or may not have heard him...some had to strain their ears to hear his whisper of a voice.
Sneaking a glance into the den Leafwhisper flinched when he saw a solid white kit within the nursery. He didn't suspect anything of Iceclaw, rather when he looked at the she-kit his heart pounded and his tail dropped. Silky white fur, cute feminine features, her shape was changing in his eyes to Lillypaw his lost crush. His daydreaming lasted for mearly seconds before he whipped his head back to Iceclaw, eyes suddenly burning brighter with a hidden passion. He would put all his effort into this patrol! For Lillypaw! He will work his tail off to grow strong for her, to take revenge on any rogue that dare step in his path! He was so lost in his thoughts, he did not realize that he must of been glaring sharply at the deputy. Most knew about the lost apprentice that was taken by a few rogues, and knew that when Leafwhisper looked like that he was planning on working until his paws fell off, honestly it was everyday he was like that so some didn't even take notice.

She dreamed of the mouse she had been tracking earlier and that she had caught it instead of letting it get away the way she had. She also dreamed that she saw some strange cats she had never seen before, but Jaypaw was no medicine cat, so she quickly went searching for another mouse she could catch and bring home. It would make her clan proud to see how well she hunted. How fast her small frame would allow her go! Of course in dreams you could fly, and have super speed… and of course be the best hunter in the clan! Everyone liked a good hunter. "Jaypaw!" the voice was distant in her dreams, it sounded familiar but she couldn’t place her whisker on who was calling her. Not giving it a second thought she went back to the mouse she had been hunting.
“Crowpaw, Jaypaw, get up!” snapped out of her dreams just as she was getting ready to pounce on the mouse she had been hunting. "Mouse-dung." She muttered as she yawned and stretched. Today was going to be a long day for her. She scratched at an itch that was behind her ear and stretched forward, then back. Looking around she spotted Crowpaw still asleep. She prodded him real fast with a quick mew that Iceclaw wanted to see them about something and took off for the clearing.
Leafwhisper was already up and seemed ready to go. Jaypaw on the other hand was ungroomed and felt like she was this wild animal that wasn’t trained right. She paused halfway to the center of camp and started to groom herself. When she had gotten herself to where she looked decent, she finished the walk to the middle and joined Iceclaw and Leafwhisper, “Present and accounted for!” She mewed with a yawn, “How are you this morning, Leafwhisper?” She asked, turning her blue-jay-blue eyes on his tabby pelt. He looked… rough.

After all that complicated business with the AspenClanner and her kits (who had, in fact, been causing quite a ruckus lately), the last thing Fadedstripe needed was a morning patrol; especially one that interrupted his all-too-needed sleep. But the deputy's word was law, and as the words "Fadedstripe, Leafwhisper, Crowpaw, and Jaypaw!" filled his ears, the dark tabby couldn't protest. Or, at least, to Iceclaw's face - in the solitude of his nest, as he arose and shook the bracken from his pelt, the tom was completely entitled to his own, unheard opinion.
"Stupid patrol," he muttered, rubbing his right ear with an ebony paw. He stole a glance towards the den's entrance, as if making sure there were no eavesdroppers, then muttered acidly,"Despite your obvious belief, my good Iceclaw, I do have better things to do..." Did he really? No: if he was asked, the tom would not, in fact, be able to list what 'better things' he had in mind. Besides laying around in the sun, that is. But he was a warrior, and the clan wasn't going to benefit from one cat's laziness. It'd still be nice, though, he though grudgingly, then with a flick of his tail, slipped out of the den and into the wide, open space that was the SoulClan camp.
It didn't take long for his eyes to adjust, and as soon as they did, Fadedstripe padded towards the rest of the patrol. Iceclaw, Leafwhisper, and Jaypaw were there already, he noted, pleased that he was nearly the last one to arrive - the tabby didn't want it to seem as if he jumped at the deputy's whim and call. He had a reputation, you know! and that would damage it very badly. Upon hearing a bit of movement in the nearby nursery, the tom ducked his head in order to get a better look.
Ah, Rainkit, one of the very kits he had just been thinking of! Fadedstripe felt his mood lighten considerably. She'd make a fine apprentice - in his opinion, the she-kit seemed much more good tempered than her sisters. Ever since she had arrived in SoulClan, he had been keeping an eye on her; since he was the first SoulClanner to find her, he felt a certain connection with the kit. And who knows? Maybe he'd be chosen to be her mentor.... The tom grinned a bit at that aspect, then turned his attention to the white deputy.
"I'm here, boss," he quipped - for that was the nickname he had saddled Iceclaw with ever since he had accepted his position - then nodded halfheartedly at Leafwhisper and Jaypaw. After Crowpaw arrived, they would head out. Hopefully, it wouldn't be too painful of an experience...

A tawny furred tabby she-cat slunk out of the Medicine cat’s den, her ears held back and her fur prickling hot with embarrassment. In her mind, she flung curse after curse towards her mentor for what she deemed to be inadequate teaching. I mean, how easy it was to confuse blackberry leaves with borage right!? They both started with a ‘b’ at any rate. Speaking of b’s… A sharp, springy gust of wind blew a tiny insect her way. Bright light washed over her as she stepped from the shadows. Warm earth greeted her twitching paws. Her jade green eyes concentrated on the tiny black and gold figure. They narrowed as it plummeted to the ground and calmly strutted over the hard earth.
From the center of camp, a loud caterwaul sounded. Adderpaw’s head jerked up and saw the stark white form of the Clan deputy. Iceclaw paced just outside the Twoleg nest, his tone hinting impatience. Although she was not assigned to this patrol, she hastened over, attempting to stomp on the bee on her way. As with her knowledge of herbs and medicines, she was quite unsuccessful.
Strong, sturdy slabs of stone surrounded the superior [ooc; alliteration…] deputy. It was an almost forlorn sight watching the milk-white cat amongst so many equally bone-pale rock structures. The pale objects were set at a high contrast in the black grass of the camp. A small sigh of wonder escaped the Medicine cat apprentice. She nodded in approval of the beauty of all the Clan cats harmoniously existing. Existing… Couldn’t that be all that was asked of her? Shouldn’t her presence alone be enough? Oh how she envied those who had already stolen the secrets of happiness.
A bulky tabby tom scuttled about, prey swinging from his jaws. At the mere sight of the plump and juicy morsels of food, Adderpaw’s fangs glistened white with saliva. Guilt twisted her heart. She should have caught something today. And now with the patrol, was her chance. With easy lopes, she streaked down the slight curve of the hill. Soft grass embraced her weary paw pads, and wads of dust were flicked into the air as she careened forward. She skidded to an immediate halt by a particularly great sculpture in the shape of a cross. With a twitch of her tail, she bunched her hind leg muscles and released, leaping neatly onto the ledge with the agility and precision of a… Well nothing; she was the most agile creature to grace the lands or course (or so she believed herself to be).
Adderpaw’s muted green eyes scanned the horizons, never daring to glance to the skies. She did not wish to see the mocking stares of the oh-so-high-and-mighty StarClan. From her lofty point of view, she still couldn’t detect the guises of the named cats to join the patrol. Where were Fadedstripe, Crowpaw, and Jaypaw? Iceclaw was still scuffling about in the apprentice’s den, while Leafwhisper was presumably trailing after him like a tick that refused to leap off no matter how much bile you thrust into their faces (if they even had any).
By the nursery, a den tucked into a secluded alcove, there was motion. The thick furred deputy and the dark tabby tom both entered, and she thought she could hear the faint mewling of kits. Her ears pricked with slight curiosity, she tumbled off of her perch and padded afterwards. Briskly, she swept the pitiful thorn barrier aside and stepped over the threshold of the shelter. “Iceclaw, I’m coming with- Oh hey there Leafwhisper- you on the patrol!” she announced, her green eyes set in a fierce glare just daring for anyone to defy her.

Looking around, everyone was here. They came within moments of their names called. Smiling, the white tom was pleased by his clan mates, for they are loyal and respectful. Looking at Jaypaw, his expectations of her were higher than any other apprentices, even Adderpaw. Looking at the grey tabby, she was a medicine cat apprentice, though everyone needed to contribute to the clan's food limit- even she needed to eat, so why couldn't she learn how to hunt and see how the life of a warrior was. Smirking, he nodded and with a flick of his tail he was heading the group out of the camp. Entering the open, Iceclaw sighed, the fresh air felt good and the touch of open land was a sense of freedom. Though he kne he couldn't just let lose and just run- which he really wanted to do. His muscles ached to be used, and thus he knew that is
what he was going to do today, use his muscles for the hunting. Iceclaw wanted to be a show off, and just hunt all day and get the most of the kills, but he was going to be modest today and let the others do that. Outside the camp, the white tom stopped. Turning around, he pointed towards Adderpaw and Fadedstripe, go south, Leafwhisper go east, and Jaypaw come with me. Everyone must get at least three kills, per cat, after that report at the camp, and you can be off duty! He ordered, heading west. Trotting, he walked next to Jaypaw. She was a pretty little cat, with light tan fur and dark markings with piercing blue eyes. Smiling, he looked over the she-cat. She was fit to be a good warrior. I have a lot of expectations for you, Jaypaw. He purred as he walked on.
