Why do you shun me for who I am?
FOR I AM Adderpaw of the great FrostClan
Age six moons Gender tom Rank apprentice
How can I hide in the shadows of the unknown?
WHEN MY PELT IS black-and-white and my eyes are ice-blue
Scars none Appearance Adderpaw's primary fur color is a dull shade of black. Though he keeps his short fur well-groomed, there is no healthy blue sheen to his pelt at all; just inky blackness. Even his highlights are like liquid shadow. The intensity of his pelt’s darkness is unbelievable - compared to him, other black cats look like gray imposters. His black pelt is marred by a jagged white stripe that starts as a blaze on his chest and crawls up his neck like a serpent, widening then coming to a stop underneath his jaw. This adder-like marking encouraged his parents to give him his unusual name. He has a white underbelly that stretches up, then narrows gradually on his chest to meet his blaze. The toes of his paws are also white.
An unusually vivid ice-blue, Adderpaw's eyes are in striking contrast with his dark pelt - at night, they're all you can see; the rest of the tom seems to disappear, with the exception of his white markings, which are dull enough to hide from view anyway. As for his build, this tom has a slim, wiry frame not unlike that of the creature he was named for, but tends to look a bit scrawny when he is even the least bit underfed - perhaps because of his AshClan heritage? His tail is long and thin, but flares out slightly at the tip.
Why do you judge me for what I’ll become? JUST BECAUSE I’M arrogant AND intense
Personality On the surface, Adderpaw displays an arrogant, sometimes even hostile personality. He is decidedly stubborn and strong-willed, as he often lets his own pettiness and vindictiveness get the best of him, and rarely accepts an opinion that isn't his own - unless it's that of his leader, of course. Like most FrostClanners, his choices are usually fueled by selfishness and pride - though it seems as if he means well, when he offers his services to any cat, there is no doubt that he has an ulterior motive. That's just the way it is. He has never acted out of the goodness of his heart and probably never will; if something doesn't benefit him, he isn't buying - unless it's for a clanmate, that is. This doesn't make him 'evil' or anything - he's just self-serving and slightly manipulative, which are simply flaws, not vile intent. Despite this, Adderpaw is a fair tom and would never condemn an innocent cat. Once you take his family into consideration, this aspect is hardly surprising - he has seen the effects of poisonous lies firsthand, in the wounded eyes of his mother.
Though he has a painfully sharp tongue and a hot temper to match, very few cats are aware of these traits; he usually keeps them in control, for when he's angry, they're veiled by a cold, cruel demeanor; and when he's neutral or trying to dissolve a situation, they're veiled by an aura of cheerfulness. But, if a cat goes far enough to provoke him... well, It's never pleasant. This tom will not hesitate to wound his opponents in battle, nor can he forget a wrong. Together, these traits mark an undeniably deadly combination: cold, bloody vengeance. It doesn't matter who the victim of a wrong is, what was done to them, or what part they played in it; and if they're from FrostClan, then it's personal. I wouldn't say that he kills or fights for fun (though he does love a good sparring session), but when he is forced to wound another (which, as he is a mere apprentice, hasn't happened very often, except in the matter of fresh-kill), he cannot deny that he enjoys it. The taste of blood appeals to him, as well as the feeling of claws ripping through flesh - another trait that seems to run deeply in his clan and, truthfully, one that repulses him. But, no matter how hard he tries to ignore it, it's there all the same - he just pushes it out of sight and, for the most part, out of mind.
A reasonably talented actor, Adderpaw may seem a bit more relaxed - in other words, strangely cheerful - around his clanmates than with cats from other clans, but nonetheless, this tom rarely lets his guard down. He's a bit paranoid, you see, but not extremely so. Sure, he trusts his clanmates, and would most certainly die for them, but... well, you can never be too careful. This makes him pretty jumpy at night, so if a cat ever startles him, they better watch out!
However, if a cat is able to make a positive impression on him, Adderpaw displays a softer, caring side. He is loyal to the death and would never, ever betray someone close to him, even if he was asked by StarClan themselves. In his opinion, it's this kind of die-hard loyalty that keeps a clan together through thick and thin. If you are unable to trust your own clanmates, then you shouldn't be in a clan at all - that's his philosophy, and for a cat as cautious as he is, it's a strange one. Though he would never throw his life away without reason, Adderpaw would be honored to sacrifice his life for a friend's, and despite his seemingly bloodthirsty disposition, he understands the value of every living creature. Unlike many cats before him, this makes Adderpaw hesitant to kill - almost unusually so. This may prove to be both a weakness and a strength, but, surprisingly (or at least to him), it's mostly the latter.
Preferences likes - quiet, rabbits, hunting, being able to trust others, fighting, leading, casual conversation, etc. dislikes - crowds, rogues, traitors, the idea of killing another cat, being judged by his own hostility, etc. Secret Ambitions To become deputy, but once again, that's a common ambition and shouldn't be taken at face value. Strengths/Weaknesses Strengths - hunting, fighting, agility, squeezing through small spaces [hence the name "Adder-"], climbing, speed, casual conversation, acting, hiding his emotions, obeying orders, etc. Weaknesses - detecting scents, keeping still, trusting others (he wants to, but sometimes he can't), holding his tongue, balance on the ground, etc.
How am I punished for what my kin has done?
EVEN IF MY PARENTS ARE Blazeclaw AND Blackwhisker
Family Father - Blazeclaw, Mother - Blackwhisker, Brother - Redpaw, Sister - Heatherpaw Event that Lead to being a Warrior N/A History Born and raised as a devoted warrior of AshClan, Adderpaw's mother, Blackwhisker, had always longed for kits of her own. She spent most of her free time in the nursery, helping the queens with their kits, and was thought of as a second mother to every single one of them. Whenever there was the slightest hint of danger, you could bet your whiskers that Blackwhisker was there, ready to protect the little ones with her life. But, despite the she-cat’s acts of loyalty, her Clanmates considered her strange; perhaps that was why she was unable to find a mate.
Their suspicion quickly turned to hate when, one lazy Greenleaf evening, a kit wandered out of camp. The queens were sleeping with plenty of other kits to distract them and most of the warriors were out on patrol, so no one noticed its absence. No one except Blackwhisker. The kit hadn’t gotten too far, but it had already managed to get into trouble; when Blackwhisker found it, a fox was nosing around nearby. She took the kit’s scruff in her jaws and raced towards the AshClan camp, determined to save the little one. Alas, in her hurry to protect the kit, Blackwhisker accidentally bit down too hard on its neck. By the time she reached camp, the kit was dead. Saying that Blackwhisker was devastated is an understatement. She was completely disconsolate. After licking its lifeless body repeatedly, trying to revive it, she threw back her head and let out a yowl so distraught it sounded as if her heart was breaking. Her lament drew the attention of her Clanmates, and when they saw her hunched over the little body, they assumed the worse.
Harshstep, a newly made warrior, had witnessed the entire ordeal. She had been told to guard the nursery when her friends went on patrol, but had snuck off to hunt instead. The kit’s death was her fault, but she was too afraid to live up to her crime. When called upon, Harshstep claimed that she had seen Blackwhisker steal a kit for herself and had killed it out of pure bitterness and resentment. The clan was only too happy to believe the she-cat, and when Blackwhisker didn’t say a word in defense of herself, she was cast into exile.
Blackwhisker wasn’t made for the life of a rogue; she was too caring, too compassionate. So, a few suns later, she went to the other clans for help, hoping they would take her in. Unfortunately, news had already spread about her crime, and she was driven off. First from AspenClan, then from SoulClan. Finally, she tried her luck with FrostClan. They were hostile at first; in fact, most of them would of chased her off without bothering to hear her request. Except for Blazeclaw. The passionate tom had taken a liking to the she-cat at a Gathering, and defended Blackwhisker when his Clanmates sneered at her claims of innocence. After a bit of arguing, she was reluctantly lead into FrostClan’s camp.
She was accepted into the clan and adjusted remarkably well, even though she was forbidden to set foot near the nursery. That rule, funnily enough, was soon dismissed when Blazeclaw and Blackwhisker became mates and, before long, were blessed with a litter of three healthy kits, Adderkit, Redkit, and Heatherkit.
Growing up, Adderkit learned to be protective of his family. He and his siblings were often teased by other kits for being half AshClan, even though his mother had been a loyal member of FrostClan for so many seasons. This teasing went on for most of Adderkit’s kithood and probably wouldn’t have stopped if he hadn’t taken a swipe at one especially hurtful offender, claws unsheathed. The wound his needle-sharp claws left in the bully's tender shoulder wasn't a laughing matter; indeed, the injured kit had to spend four suns in the medicine cat den. Adderkit was punished severely, but the results of his wrathful attack were worth it; no other cat dared to openly mock him or his family anymore.
Adderkit and his siblings were made apprentices at the usual time and age; indeed, nothing about this time of their lives was out of the ordinary. Sure, Adderpaw's mentor was a rather distant towards him, but to tell you the truth, Adderpaw couldn't of cared less. His family's tight bond was more than enough for him - he didn't need any other cats' affection to make him happy. He worked hard, gained recognition, and is looking forward to becoming a warrior.
Sample RP Already did one. ^^ I hope it's okay that I'm using the name "Adder-", when it's already been taken - I made him for a different site and am reluctant to change his name without being advised to. xP
You call me by the name I’ve lied I meet in secret with those who’ve died Though life is not’ but treachery This life is all the life in me
