Thunderstripe was having trouble sleeping, and was not sure why, perhaps it was due to the fact that she had scented a badger recently, and always gets nervous when it comes to badgers. She was outside of the den and sitting, just taking in the nighttime air, trying to clear her head. Her Violet eyes searched the night sky, watching the constellations and thinking about Starclan, when she heard a noise. Thunserstripe tensed, her fur stood on end and she crouched down, ready to pounce upon whatever was lurking in the shadows of her camp, she hoped it was a cat, or a small animal, although it was- Thunderstripe stopped her trail of thought when she saw a tiny, stupid mouse, she pounced on it, and killed it quickly. It'd make a nice little snack for any midnight munchers. She shuffled quietly to the fresh kill pile, making sure not to wake any of her clan-mates, she tossed it in with the rest of the prey and sniffed around the bottom, if she was being restless, she may as well help. She was fishing around the bottom of the fresh- kill pile for anything that smelled a bit too old to eat, she dug a hole nearby, and buried them. Suddenly, a much larger rustling hit her ears, she figured it was just another small animal, so she just ignored it, but when the noise got louder, her violet eyes flashed with anger and her fur rose again.
Thunderstripe crouched and waited for whatever it was to show itself.

A softly snoozing figure lay in a little bed of moss, its silver tail peacefully sweeping back and forth. Crickets and other night insects serenaded the camp, and occasional rustling disturbed the stillness of the surrounding forest. For a few heartbeats, everything was completely and totally still. The hunched shape’s tail stopped flicking, and two eyes opened, sweeping across the warm den. She noticed nothing out of usual; all the cats were quietly slumbering. However, what she failed to see was that a single shard of light fell in a pool on one very empty pile of moss. One of the Warriors was missing.
Stealthily, Silverclaw padded out of the Warriors’ den and into the cool night, shivering as a blast of freezing air met her thin coat. Slivers of moonlight dappled her dark back, causing her to glow in the blackness of the woods. Her stomach grumbled as she neared Icestar’s den. Afraid that her leader would awaken, she hastened on, pausing by the fresh-kill pile on her way. Perhaps a little meal would revive her enough to make the long journey to FrostClan territory. She knew she wouldn’t make it until sunhigh the next day, but she still wanted to try.
Unfortunately for her, she wasn’t the only cat up. There was another figure crouched by the fresh-kill pile. Silverclaw paused, confused. She had listened in on Icestar’s conversations and had learned that the night patrols should be far away from camp at this time. So why was a cat in the camp now? Her amber eyes narrowed, she watched as the cat, Thunderstripe as she identified, bury long-dead fresh-kill fit for crowfood. Her stomach rumbling once more, she decided she had to get something to eat, to ease her miserable hunger.
Silverclaw stepped out of the shadows and dragged a rabbit out of the fresh-kill stack. Chewing thoughtfully on a juicy leg, she meowed coolly, “Hello Thunderstripe. What brings you here out so late?” Her head bent again as she tore another mouthful of flesh off, licking the bones clean before discarding them in the hole the other she-cat had dug.

Thunderstripe looked up at the movement near her in the Fresh kill pile, she was shocked that she had not noticed Silverclaw before, but she was sorting through knasty old food.
Thunderstripe tipped her head to the cat, and kept an eye on her as the cat tore flesh off a piece of prey. Watching as she buried the meat, Thunderstripe's ears swished as the cat asked her a question.
"I... could not sleep... Nightmares."
She lied, looking at her dark feet, she continued to sort through the prey, although there was only two bad-scented ones left. She felt a bit awkward, so pulled them out gently, more gentle then she'd done with the others. Pausing to think, Thunderstripe turned to her clan-mate and asked,
"And what brings you here?"
She said, Crazy as a fox, that one. Thunderstripe thought, something always went off as odd in her head when she was around Silverclaw, pushing the thought of her clanmate away, she stared at the cat intently, her violet eyes glowing in the dark camp light. She tipped her head, curiously.

Silverclaw’s keen eyes watched as the dark tabby she-cat continued to sort through the fresh-kill pile. Thoughtfully, she traced a leaf that was pressed into the earth, her claws nearly ripping it into shreds. She sat up so the extent of her average height seemed larger. A listless tail swished by her side, patting down the nearby grass so it was flattened. As she spoke, her question echoed through the dark night. Up in the heavens, glittering stars were sprinkled on the black background, each representing a different deceased Warrior. Musing, she briefly wondered if one of her own ancestors was watching down on her that moment, protecting her.
The dark gray she-cat, her silvery pelt shining with moonlight, observed Thunderstripe’s shifty expression as she meowed her reply. The darker cat wouldn’t even stare her in the eye. There was something she was withholding. “Hmm. I see,” she simply said, in a way that indicated she didn’t see. The silence was prolonged to the point of awkwardness. But Silverclaw knew exactly what she was doing. She fervently hoped that Thunderstripe would confess her true thoughts… Cats usually submitted in such circumstances…
At last, and to her great disappointment, Thunderstripe did manage a response. It was not what the pale she-cat was hoping for; she was quite displeased by this. Rather gruffly, she meowed, “I should say it’s not much of your concern, but if you must know, I was to be on the next border patrol. Creektwist’s orders.” She gave a rather unpleasant laugh, as though she thought her deputy’s orders were something of a joke. Again, her penetrating stare met the opposite she-cat’s violet ones. “So. What is it you’re doing exactly, may I ask? You want to be deputy that badly?” It was a hard stab of a guess, but such helpful behavior was unusual, even for a deputy and not especially at moon-high?
Thunderstripe retaliated with a hard stare of her own. In fact, Silverclaw lowered her amber gaze and crouched beside the other, as if wanting to help. She concentrated on rolling a long-dead mouse that stunk of crowfood over to the hole that had been dug. She scraped a bit of earth over its carcass and wrinkled her nose at the putrid stench. “Well! I must be off, my apologies. My head’s quite tired from Icestar’s endless conversations about leader work, as if she’d trust someone like me for the next deputy job. She must think that somehow Creektwist might meet some unfortunate fate and die. Who knows?” And, with a last scrape of her hind legs, she trotted off.

Thunderstripe's eyes widened as the dark grey cat mentioned Creektwist getting hurt. Her heart fluttered as she thought of the wide chested cat, her eyes flashed with pain as she imagined him being put in harm. Her frown deepend.
"What work?" She asked, her eyes thinned with suspicion as she tried not to flinch. She wondered what Silverclaw was speaking of, what would the leader do that could put their current deputy in jeopardy? Surely that wouldn't be plausible.
"Why...why would Icestar?"
She asked, her brain yelled, It's a lie, she's crazy. It's a lie, a powerplay. Thunderstripe thought, but something in Silverclaw's eyes didn't add up to her lying, she had to be telling the truth, but her brain just screamed again and again, why?

The gray Warrior kept a steady, never wavering gaze into bright violet eyes. Her body was rigid; only a sweeping tail and a flicking ear revealed she was not dead. Dark irises focused on the expression of the Warrior before her, assessing their reaction to her blunt words. She was sure her message was conveyed appropriately. But would Thunderstripe respond in the way she wanted her to? The preliminary response was good: the black tabby was wide-eyed with shock at her statement. Silverclaw thought she detected a gleam of ambition in those lilac eyes before it dissipated. Instead, Thunderstipe’s features creased into a slight frown. Hmm…
Deep violet eyes narrowed into slits that glared at her. She tried not to show how anxious she was to this reply. She turned to leave; if Thunderstripe did not willingly agree to her plans, she could very well be exiled. Not that it particularly worried her. She wanted to find her true Clan before exile however. Some cats responded better to Clan cats than to rogues or loners. The tone that greeted Silverclaw’s still flicking ears held suspicion and… Was that a trace of longing she detected? Swiveling on the spot, she fastened a small smile on her face.
Confusion flitted across Thunderstripe’s dark features. Good, maybe she was considering Silverclaw’s hinted proposition. Smoothly, she replied, “I know what it takes to become leader. I may not possess such qualities but I still know of them. Icestar and I have discussed such.” She paused, musing over her words. She allowed silence to seep in for some time before continuing. “Such knowledge… What a waste it would be if there was no one else to know of it… You seem to me to be capable of becoming leader. What do you say?” she finally went to the point saying. There was no longer a need to drag out each detail, lengthening it until it was unbearable. Facts were facts, and she may as well be blunt with them. She knew how to make her become something better, and she was offering this knowledge. How could any Warrior refuse? Satisfied, she settled herself on the ice-cold ground to allow her words to properly enter Thunderstripe’s brain.
However, the dark tabby merely questioned why Icestar would believe harm would come to Creektwist. Silverclaw’s tail lashed with impatience. Didn’t she get it? Here she was, offering this grand opportunity, and all the other Warrior wants to know is what her silly leader thinks of it. Brusquely, she responded, “Because this forest is dangerous. Because something dark is coming. Because you may just be the one to save us all. What other reasons do you need?” Frustration welled up in her throat, but she forced it back down. Anger would not help Thunderstripe’s decision, and she had already been too harsh with her previous words.

The world was peaceful, and the crickets and frogs were conducting their own orchestra. Trees rustled in the wind, and warriors murmured and turned. But there were three cats awake tonight. Silverclaw had played her game well, and Thunderstripe might give in. But Lightningfoot thought not. She listened to the two warriors talk. She had woken up when Silverclaw had brushed pass, and she listened.
Lightningfoot watched the rise and fall of the flanks of her friends as they breathed deeply in Sleepland. But the warrior was not deceived. She had lived a harsh life, and knew when there was a false offer under the smooth honey of flattery. “Not yet Silverclaw.” She growled softly.
She had never trusted the warrior, her conscience refused to let her. Lightningfoot sighed, and perked her ears for Thunderstripe’s response, wondering whether she should reveal herself yet. Her wise mind told her not yet, that she should wait for Thunderstripe’s reply to Silverclaw’s tempting offer. Lightningfoot also decided to listen to as much as she could, so she could go talk to Icestar as soon as her leader woke up. She rolled herself in her fellow warrior’s pelt to disguise her scent, and dyed her paws and tail black using the dirt on the side of the warriors den. She smiled slightly, then turned an ear and listened.

Thunderstripe was taken aback by the statements this cat was making. She was confused at what she was doing. Silverclaw seemed to be making a hint about her.
"What ...what are you insinuating?" She asked, her violet eyes were wide, shocked, Silverclaw seemed to be hinting that Icestar and her were thinking about her becoming leader. Thunderstripe found this odd, why wouldn't Icestar come directly to her about it. Before she could say anything else, the cat spoke of how Thunderstripe could be the only cat to be able to save her clan.
"What?"
Thunderstripe said, her face wide with interest,Surely the medicine cat... or at least Icestar would tell me of this... she thought. But again, something in Silverclaw's face was telling her that she wasn't lying. Thunderstripe felt nothing but interest, caution flew from her body, as she stepped forwards, curious. Her eyes flared, as her mind raced, she had many friends in this clan, but Silverclaw had never been one, she was wondering if maybe this was Silverclaw being friendly? Or maybe she was really important towards the clans? Thunderstripe found that hard to believe, though. She was a bit confused. Finally Thunderstripe spoke again:
"Are you serious?"
She asked, her tail swished and her mind flicked around, racing from thought to thought.

There is always the point where a conversation becomes too awkward to further discuss it. This felt like one of those moments. Silverclaw could see her intimidating stare and blunt words were too much for the other Warrior. The dark tabby was eying her warily and confusedly, and seemed very uncomfortable by her interrogation. Simple-minded, she thought, a bit exasperated. Still, she sympathized with the tabby, as her words were made to shock. She allowed her tense shoulders to relax and paced languidly. Her eyes lightened and she attempted a smile (which pained her greatly and made her seem as if she had a toothache).
Her dark silver tail rested so it was dragging along the forest floor, accumulating pine needles and pebbles alike. All four paws firmly pressed into the soft dust, she felt a slight rumbling, as if another animal had approached. Her ears pricked and her eyes scanned the dense undergrowth. She saw a dark shadow off to her right, but then again there were dark shadows all over the dark woods. Her fur ruffled but she made no move to investigate. It wasn’t as if she was discussing her plotting. Yet. First she needed to size up Thunderstripe. And so far, it wasn’t looking good.
The tabby Warrior bombarded Silverclaw with questions. Pressing her eyes shut to relieve any further tension generated by this disruption, she merely replied, “Look. You have so much potential. I know you will do fine as a leader. Something will… happen to Creektwist probably. A dangerous mission, a fatal choice. Icestar will name you as her next deputy if… you listen to what I have to say. If you accept the training I offer.” Silverclaw paused solemnly, letting this new information sink in. She resumed her pacing, watching Thunderstripe the whole time. Again, she cast furtive glances in the direction she had seen the dark figure last time. And again she sensed no movement. Either the eavesdropper had left or there never was anyone there. Either way was fine with her. She had only offered special training. What did they think? They wanted to enlist in her special training too? Smirking, she rested her legs on the floor, her conscience eased. “Do you accept?” she meowed at last.

Thunderstripe stared at the cat. Her mind flew by, different things popped into her head. She hissed at the she-cat, and turned away from the dark silver cat.
"Traitor."
She growled, swiping dirt towards Silverclaw, Thunderstripe began to run through the exit of Aspenclan camp. Her eyes watched the moon yawn loudly. The bright light was beaming through the clouds...surely Starclan was not angry with what was going on... She paused, her front paw raised, she bit her lip and turned her ear towards Silverclaw. Shaking her head, Thunderstripe tried to clear her head. A million things were rushing around inside her skull, she couldn't handle them in camp.
Her paws hit the ground with loud thumps as she ran through the dense forests of Thunderclan territory. Finally she reached a small moonlit clearing.
"Surely..."
She started out loud, feeling insane talking to herself, she looked at her paws and continued in her mind,Surely Starclan would have sent a sign of anger at this... But then another thought fought that one, Surely Starclan would have sent a sign of support in this... Her mind spun with different thoughts, when Ambition flared over her new semi-friendly relationship with the odd deputy, Creektwist. Her eyes flashed and she jumped up. Starclan must want it. Thunderstripe wanted it. Surely it would work. Thunderstripe stormed through the forest, beating the dirt in with her paws as she ran through the bushes. She jumped into camp, looking for Silverclaw. She paused and came nose-to-nose with the grey cat, her violet eyes wild with ambition.
"Fine then. Let's do it."
Thunderstripe said, her chest heaving, and her tail swishing with the ferocity of a lioness.

A blank expression was upon Silverclaw’s face as she gazed steadily at the dark tabby. Her eyes were glassy and motionless; a silver tail curled up in a question. The icy night wind blew little droplets of moistness onto her quivering whiskers, the cold beating at her fur. Internally, she shivered with cold but she refused to let the Warrior see this. She simply had to appear unfazed.
The tabby gray Warrior hissed at her and turned to streak off into the night. But as she ran, a biting word flew back. Traitor. But Silverclaw wasn’t a traitor. Or at least not yet. Her dark tail swiped at her muzzle as she ducked. A frigid blast of wind buffeted her. Everything was dark and she felt nauseous. Was Thunderstripe off to send news of this treachery to her leader? She couldn’t; it was much too early for that. The silver dappled she-cat was prepared to be exiled but not yet.
Silverclaw half considered chasing after the fleeing Warrior. In fact, she did pace a few pawsteps closer to the retreating figure. But she felt there was simply no point. Besides, Thunderstripe was heading the wrong direction if she were to reach their leader. And she was sure the tabby would return for a second confrontation. All she needed was a little patience. Patience and luck. She was good at that. That was how she had survived all those moons, but she needed more if she were to find her true Clan. Hopefully if her ruse worked accordingly, Creektwist would be eliminated, to be replaced with Thunderstripe. Or maybe the Warrior would become Thunderstar. But before such, she would be an exile, maybe join SoulClan. Or FrostClan, it made no difference.
The dark gray she-cat blinked long and calmly. When her eyes opened again, she was facing Thunderstripe. Again. The violet-eyed Warrior was panting heavily but it probably wasn’t from the adrenaline of running. Her jaw parted and she replied at last. Silverclaw inclined her head, satisfaction and ambition intertwined in that amber gaze. She stared into pools of dark purple, seeing her own emotions reflected back. Her first follower recruited, she turned and motioned for the tabby to follow.
She left the camp and entered a second clearing. Dark silhouettes of lofty pines surrounded her, and a light drizzle slipped freely onto her slick fur. She swept her gaze around this before locking it with Thunderstripe’s. She waited before speaking. “First, you must learn the ways of being a deputy. Organizing patrols. Pleasing the rest of the cats. You must prove to Icestar that you are worthy. We can deal with Creektwist later. I want you to befriend all of the cats and never stop being helpful. Never.”

Lightningfoot sighed as Thunderstripe came back and agreed. She listened carefully, slipping behind trees and bushes as she followed Silverclaw. The she-cat had already taken her apprentice into SoulClan territory; the mentor was not surprised that Silverclaw was breaking the warrior code by planning mutiny.
Lightningfoot slipped the trees and Silverclaw ‘mentored’ Thunderstripe. She wanted to yowl out to Thunderstripe. “It’s all lies! Don’t believe her!” She kept her mouth shut. She would report to Icestar as soon as the leader woke up. But suddenly, Lightningfoot had an inspiration. Icestar might not believe Lightningfoot. She raced silently back to camp.
“Hollypaw!” She hissed. “Wake up! Urgent mission.” Too late did Lightningfoot realize that Hollypaw was friends with Silverclaw. Oh well. She turned away, hoping Hollypaw wasn’t awake. She raced silently to the warriors den. “Raggedclaws!” She hissed, prodding the tom with a claw. “Wake up!” She poked him again, harder this time.
She kept poking and poking with a sharp claw that he woke up, and she smiled. “Silverclaw is planning on killing Creektwist.” She whispered. “And she wants Thunderstripe to be deputy so that when she’s exiled she’ll join another Clan and be able to take over this one.” She quickly confided him in the happenings of the night that he had missed. “I thought Icestar won’t believe me by myself.” She finished with her eyes on her paws. “Then I woke you up.”
She straightened suddenly, and rushed to the apprentice’s den. “Hollypaw get up!” She whispered harshly. “Do you want to take care of the elders for a moon?” She whispered punishment. “Get up!” She shoved at Hollypaw and pushed her into the moonlight. “Up.” She ordered sharply, gesturing to Raggedclaws with her tail to join them.

Blood sprayed over AspenClan territory. Frightened yowls of cats filled the air as Raggedclaws thundered through the forest, his claws unsheathed and golden eyes blazing with pure rage. No matter how many cats leapt on him to try and pin him down, no cat could, and they were all thrown to the side like kits. Nobody would interfere with his fight! Cody crouched in the distance, his green eyes burning with the fire of battle; but long extinguished by the white-hot ice that Raggedclaws’s claws glowed. Leaping toward the tom, he instantly pinned him down, leaving the cat writhing beneath his body, and then another cat appeared; the one who had forced Horizonshine to have kits. This dream was getting better and better!
As he was about to deliver a screeching death blow to the pathetic cat’s throat, something attacked his side; a paw, a stick, he wasn’t sure, but it was something. Turning his head, he saw a burst of sunlight, and he squinted, trying to block it out, but it grew brighter and proceeded to take him. And then he was gazing out into the AspenClan camp, his claws unsheathed and digging into the ground like daggers. What moron was waking him up? Surely they heard the tales of before, when others had roused him for stupid reasons and received a claw to the face in return? What cat would even think of waking up the big, aggressive tom?
And then he scented Lightningfoot and his eyes flicked to the she-cat’s pelt as she crouched beside him on the soft earth, his eyes filled with annoyance as he waited. Around him, the moon was glaring down at him with almost white-hot anger, and he couldn’t help but wonder why there were no clouds in the sky. It only intensified the light from the moon, which bathed him each and every night. He pushed himself up tiredly and turned toward Lightningfoot; the tactical she-cat who he couldn’t help but feel amused by on a daily basis. He lowered his head to listen to what she was whispering and his claws dug into the ground. So Silverclaw was planning mutiny with Thunderstripe, eh? At first the gargantuan tom didn’t know what to think. Silverclaw was going to try and take over AspenClan with Raggedclaws in it? What a joke... But Raggedclaws wasn’t one for wanting to find out if it was true or not; it provided the pretence to get his blood-tainted claws on the annoying she-cat, which he had wanted to do for a long, long time.
He had missed quite a lot, hadn’t he? If he had been where Lightningfoot was, he would have leapt out and snatched Silverclaw up in his teeth and ended her life without so much as a second thought. When the she-cat left to get Hollypaw, Raggedclaws slipped his massive head into the nursery to check on Horizonshine; she was whimpering in her sleep, but she would be fine. He would be there for her, no matter what. Breathing calmly, wind battered his fur as it picked up when he moved away. He would slay anything that would dare to harm her!
He thrust his head to Lightningfoot’s ear and whispered; in a voice that only she could hear at that time, “Let me talk to her and then watch. If she really is planning on killing Creektwist, what I say should prove it. Stay hidden, stay low, and don’t interfere.” He growled, his thick black tail swaying. “And don’t do anything stupid, because I don’t want to have to bail your tail out of trouble.” Was that...? No, it was! In his voice as he spoke just then was a soft tone, almost warm, and careful. Raggedclaws wasn’t usually one for speaking softly to any cat, so why to Lightningfoot? He seemed to notice his mistake, because he paused in midstride, his nose wrinkling. Did he really have something for the smaller cat...?

Lightningfoot nodded briskly, unaware of Raggedclaw's soft tone. "Got it." She whispered. "Follow me." She padded out of camp, hoping Hollypaw would follow. If she did, that was great, if she didn’t, oh well. At least Raggedclaws had woken up to come with her. She padded silently through the trees, well aware of Raggedclaws right behind her. She purposely padded through large but not obvious spaces. She smiled, glad that the tom trusted her. Suddenly, a thrill of happiness shot through her when she remembered his soft tone. She grinned. He trusted her!
She padded swiftly, and suddenly, they were there. She flung a blackened tail out in front of Raggedclaws, then backed out and nodded to him, pointing an ear in the direction of the two cats. “They are over there.” She mouthed. Their pelts brushed as she slipped past him so he could be first. She grinned at him, a sense of adventure trilling through her.
She was still slightly in shock of the fact that Raggedclaws trusted her. He was a strong tom that used to be a loner. Lightningfoot loners never trusted anyone. Then she shook her head. She used to be a loner, but only for a few moons. She remembered her mother telling them never to trust anyone else, or she would be backstabbed right away. She shuddered as the fox’s bared teeth flashing at her littermates and her parents.
Then she held her head up. Her new family was the Clan, and she would protect it with her life, even if it meant ignoring her mother’s teachings and trusting Raggedclaws like she trusted him. She smiled at the thought that she would give her life for the strong tom, because he had so much to give to the Clan, a lot more than she did. She flicked her tail against his side unconsciously, swearing silently to StarClan that she would do whatever he said, no matter what. “I trust you Raggedclaws,” She whispered, partly to herself. “I trust you with my life.”

RAGGEDCLAWSMoving through AspenClan Territory, Raggedclaws wondered what exactly was going through Silverclaw’s mind. Mutiny was a serious thing. He thought the annoying she-cat was like the rest of AspenClan; loyal tail-kissers who would rather die than let one morsel of prey slip into enemy claws. Thoughts of how he would explain him being out of camp seemed like something that he wouldn’t be able to do, considering some cats thought he was stupid, but as soon as Lightningfoot stuck her tail out to signal for him to stop, he had come up with an excuse. Well, if Silverclaw didn’t like it, he’d slam her into the floor for all he cared, but that wasn’t going to give him the answers he needed... Looking through half-closed eyes at the two cats, Raggedclaws simply watched them before he motioned for Lightningfoot to remain hidden and flanked the clearing. When he was away from Lightningfoot, he stormed through into the clearing like a badger had bitten his tail, his claws unsheathed and his fur bristling slightly. “Stupid Apprentices,” he hissed to himself, and then his ears twitched, his eyes landed on Silverclaw and Thunderstripe. His golden eyes blazed with anger and irritation, which flowed through his body and out of his paws ceaselessly. “You know how much I would love to claw each and every Apprentice in AspenClan?” The tom snarled, his ears flattened as he stared down at the two. “Creektwist is a pushover! He can’t even keep the Kits or Apprentices in line and he’s always sleeping or doing something useless. I have the right mind to tear his throat out and be done with it. Why Icestar chose that fool is beyond me; he’s about as much use as a dead Badger!” His nose wrinkled at the scent of the two she-cats. Suspiciously, his eyes narrowed, flashing with hot gold as he growled darkly, “What are you two doing out of camp anyway? Shouldn’t you be watching the camp or something, or being lazy and sleeping?”
