It was morning when Easternsky had crawled out of the Warriors den in AshClan camp. Her light green eyes wandered about the camp interior, resting on the fresh-kill pile. She sighed knowing she would have to assemble a morning hunting patrol, a dawn-patrol, and manage to somehow squeeze in time to train Leopardpaw, her apprentice. She moved over to the fresh kill-pile and plucked a vole from the pile and took it over one corner of the camp to eat and groom herself. ‘I’ll take Leopardpaw hunting when the sun decides to peak over FrostClan Mountains.’ ’ She thought as she bit down into the vole. A light breeze rustled the trees outside of the camp. When Easternsky finished her vole she started grooming herself, and when she was finished with that she assembled the patrols and poked her head into the apprentice’s den to inform Leopardpaw that that he was to meet her at Rabbit Hill for a training session. Then she left the camp, after seeing all her duties were taken care of, and headed for Rabbit Hill.

All the warmth of the Warriors Den was gone, and had been replaced with the cold of the morning. The Sun was rising; Easternsky could see the sky going from dark black, to navy, to light pink, and the stars were slowly disappearing. There were clouds on in the west, which meant they would be heading east. By the time the sun would start to peak over the mountains of FrostClan territory it would be cloudy. This hills were covered with snow! Easternsky didn’t like the idea of trekking through it, but she had to train her apprentice somehow! Most of the time they spent at Ember Mountain, it was warm there, even in leaf-bare! ! ‘Ugh. Thank StarClan the snow isn’t too thick!’ She thought as she headed for the place where she would meet Leopardpaw. ‘First I’ll start with a bit of hunting exercises, just to warm up. Then I’ll teach him combat, maybe...’ She stopped under a tree and decided it was too cold to go any farther.
Looking at the cold mountains she watched the sky grow lighter and lighter. Letting her mind wander she wondered what it would be like to be in FrostClan on a day like this. Their pelts were thick and could stand up to the cold, hers was thin and even in Leaf-bare it was still cold out. Would FrostClan be out hunting this early in the morning? Easternsky fluffed up her fur and shook the thoughts away from head to tail. She had to be in the now if she was going to train Leopardpaw to be one of the best Warriors in AshClan!

He had been having a fabulous dream, the young leopard spotted apprentice was hunting rabbit, chasing it through the areas, over the canyon. Long tail flicked in his sleep as he was rudely awoken by his mentors voice, charging into his dream like a lumbering badger. Not that her voice was annoying or anything, it was nice, but it was the last thing he wanted to hear while having a wonderful dream, especially after a hard days patrolling the day before. Flicking an ear in acknowledgement to her words he lifted his head, so she would see he was awake. Once she was out of sight he placed his head back down, closing his amber eyes for a little while longer. He was fast enough to find her again so she would not be waiting long. Back to his dream the apprentice waited until he had caught the rabbit before officially waking. Rising the leopard spotted tom stretched, relishing in the feeling the stretching of his muscles brought. Yawning he trotted towards the fresh-kill pile, sighing at the lack of food. Picking up a rat he curled up beside the pile munching it down, although not with the urgency many apprentice would have. It was a casual thing.
Once finished he gave himself a quick wash, one of the few things he could pride himself on in this clan was his looks. He looked nothing like any other cat here, there was no reason he should. The tom was an orphan, Easternsky had found him as a small kit within the territory, wandering aimlessly. And had brought him back to be raised as a clan cat, and here he was. Now Leopardpaw, and Easternsky was even his mentor. Trotting calmly out of camp the apprentice made his way towards the Rabbit Hill, spotting his mentor with a nod he sat before her, calmly licking a paw as he washed it over his ear. "What are we doing today Easternsky?" he asked with relative boredom. All these things seemed rather trivial to him. He understood the importance of the warrior code, the clan had taught him that upon his first day there. Yet he was a better hunter than the other apprentices, far quicker with his lean muscle mass.

She hadn’t been paying attention! ! ‘Way to go Easternsky! That was brilliant way to set an example!’ She scolded herself mentally. Collecting her wits she smiled at Leopardpaw. He was becoming a fine apprentice and he would make a fine warrior! She could feel it. ‘I hope StarClan smiles upon him at his warrior ceremony!’ She add to her thoughts, of course that was a long ways off, but she couldn’t help but worry a little. He wasn’t Clan born, when she had found him on the border she couldn’t help but have compassion, but Easternsky was like that naturally. 'Even Littlepaw...' Even though Littlepaw was born of a different mother from Easternsky, she knew they were kin, and that she had to put up with her father’s choice of a new mate.
"What are we doing today Easternsky?" She heard Leopardpaw ask. “Hmmm…” She hummed thoughtfully, “I think we should try to warm up by doing a little hunting first!” She knew he was a very good hunter. Turning to the task, Easternsky sniffed the breeze. A little ways off she could scent a rabbit, this is Rabbit Hill of course, and the birds were only starting to stir, the sun hadn’t warmed the ground yet, her paws were freezing! She trembled from the cold slightly. Sitting under the tree hadn’t exactly helped her warm up.
Looking to the mountains she noticed the first rays of the sun decided to finally peek over. The hazy yellow looked welcoming compared to the snow that lay on the ground. As the tray shot across the landscape everything didn’t look so… dark and forbearing. The shadow of the mountain stretched creating shady places to hunt and the birds, almost all at once, sprang into song. The light was still cold, it would take all morning for the sun to defrost the cold barrier that separated warmth from cold. “Tell me, Leopardpaw, what can you smell?” she asked, turning her green eyes to her apprentice once again, “I want to observe your hunting.” More like she didn’t want to move, but she was also curious as to where he was in his hunting skill.
