Hawkeye jogged along the winding earthen path back into the AspenClan’s camp ground. The tom had felt drawn towards the two-legs’ domain as of late. Well, it was not that he wanted to actually cross into their territory. Secretly, Hawkeye felt a mixture of fear and disgust at that entire place. But snakepath, and other areas that either belonged to the clan, or to neither group in particular, he felt fine with. Hawkeye, like the cat stereotype, was very curious about those in-between regions, despite the obvious danger. Hawkeye’s own mother – and possibly siblings – were kittypets. Hawkeye had convinced himself that one day, they might just return to the clan. There was no way of knowing what life with the two-legs was like, but Hawkeye was sure it wasn’t better than the wilderness. And so, he patrolled diligently, always hoping to catch the sight of the tell-tale patched pelts and bright amber eyes.
In all his patrols, perimeter checks, hunts, and searches, he had not found them yet. On the upside, the AspenWoods territory was a little bit safer. Hawkeye wasn’t sure that there was really any outside threat to begin with, but circling the perimeter and combing through the forest couldn’t hurt, either. In any case, he was just that much more familiar with his home turf.
Hawkeye crossed the gradient of dirt to grass, the cold temperature of dew drops still clinging to each blade surprising him a little, and bringing him back to the here and the now. Feeling more relaxed with the familiar texture of the flora beneath his feet, Hawkeye finally remembered what he was supposed to do that day. He’d just been assigned an apprentice, Hollypaw. Hawkeye knew this kit – although she was not longer a kit, exactly – only by sight. She was pretty, multicolored, and small in size but quick on her feet. Hawkeye couldn’t help but wonder if Hollypaw was assigned to him specifically because of their similar appearance. There were some major differences, of course, that cast doubt onto that theory. She was predominantly red in color with black markings climbing up her legs, whereas Hawkeye was a patchwork of copper and white on a primarily black pelt. Hawkeye was also sleek and shorthaired, while Hollypaw had a long and thick coat. Still, Scarredstar made a wise choice with their pairing. The autumn-color markings, the swiftness, and the smaller size which the two shared would definitely come into play for both a hunter and a warrior. Hawkeye was adept at using what he had to his advantage: taking down a bulkier and sometimes bigger animal – cat and prey alike – absolutely required it.
So he wandered into the compound, heading for the apprentice’s den, but stopping short of sticking his face into the pile of sleeping future warrior. Hollypaw could be fast asleep, or just waking up. She might not even be in the den at all. And as much as he was within his rights to find out, Hawkeye was hesitant to start off his mentorship by demanding she wake up immediately. Besides, the apprentices needed to bond together to be effective warriors in the future – each of them must be willing to sacrifice themselves for the clan, but without those bonds of kinship, the apprentices (as future warriors) would not protect each other as fiercely if or when the time came.
”Hollypaw?” Hawkeye vocalized the question, loud enough that it would carry into the cave where apprentices slept and ring out in the clearing, should Hollypaw be elsewhere in the compound. Situating himself beside the warriors’ den, he folded his legs underneath his chest and squinted against the light. He would wait here, only semi-awake, for Hollypaw to find him.

A red calico she-cat pushed through the camp entrance. Within her mouth was a freshly killed rabbit. Seeing as she was a small she-cat the rabbit was twice her size. She has been apprentice for a few moons now and she still looked like a kit, but don't doubt her hunting and fighting skills because of her size. Her speed was what caught her this unlucky catch. Her eyes shined with pride at her prize. This apprentice was Hollypaw. She had be out hunting all morning.
Hollypaw padded over to the freshkill pile and gently dropped the rabbit on the pile. She only wanted to be praised for her task, but seeing as her mentor was no where near and her best friend was dead. All she wanted to do was breakdown and not get back. She let out a small sigh and headed back to her den.Oh, Silverclaw, how I miss you. You were my only friend. I feel alone without you.Or she thought her mentor was no where to be seen. She padded up to Hawkeye. She nudged his shoulder with her head. She smiled at her mentor. Her tail twitched. She let her saddness dift away. There was no point in letting it affect her training. "Yes, Hawkeye? Sorry I couldn't sleep this morning so I went hunting. No use in wasting time, right?"It was clear the she-cat was tired, but there was no way for her sleep. She just couldn't. Anyways she need to do something to get her mind off things.

The odd-colored tom still sat (or lay?) with his eyes half-closed when his new apprentice found her way back to the camp. From what little he could see, however, he couldn’t help but be a little impressed. It was almost a comical sight, watching the young she-cat drag in a rabbit she had caught into the fresh-kill pile. It was easily twice her size. Hawkeye wondered if killing it was easier than carrying it for Hollypaw. And yet, the calico cat didn’t seem to find it amusing. Maybe it was just amusing to an outsider, maybe she just wasn’t a very prideful creature. Either explanation would have satisfied Hawkeye’s curiosity had he not seen a shadow of loss wash over her face. Hawkeye had heard that she had a mentor before, but nobody’s seen him for a while. He must have been a good mentor, for Hollypaw to be taking his disappearance rather hard. Suddenly, Hawkeye wondered if he’d even live up to Hollypaw’s and Scarredstar’s expectations. He’d never had an apprentice before. Now, as Hollypaw wandered over to where he rested, Hawkeye finally stirred, sitting up on his paws. There she was, nudging his shoulder, setting aside what she felt to greet him. Hawkeye gazed back at her with a friendly expression on his face. ”It’s no problem at all. You can take a break if you want, that was quite a kill you brought in today,” Hawkeye said, glancing back at the fresh-kill pile, where the rabbit lay prominently on top, looking meaty and appetizing. ”I just wanted for us to get to know each other a bit today,” he continued, his eyes back on Hollypaw. ”It’s… important.” Hawkeye finished lamely. Yes, it may have seemed like a pointless formality, but Hawkeye truly believed it would matter.

"It’s no problem at all. You can take a break if you want, that was quite a kill you brought in today." Hollypaw purred at her new mentor praise. Yes, she missed Lightingfoot, she was a good mentor and she had been her friend too, but she had a feeling Hawkeye would be a great mentor himself. "Thank you, Hawkeye! That big guys was fast! I swear he almost got away! I still have energy, I'm still younger then you warriors who run out of engery faster then us young apprentices!" Hollypaw teased.
"I just wanted for us to get to know each other a bit today," Hollypaw chuckled. She nodded in agreement. "It’s… important.”"Hollypaw sdupressed her chuckle from his nerves. She twitched her tail playfully. She stood up onto her small paws. "Sure, sounds like a good idea. How shall we get to know each other?"Hollypaw mewed. She looked up at her mentor. It seems Scarredstar had paired the two well. Although Hawkeye had not seen her attuide and she kinda hoped he didn't, but sometime she couldn't control it. Hopefully this tom knew fully what he was getting into and hopefully he can keep up with her.

All good, mine aren't that long either. Btw Silverclaw is her bestfriend who died and her mentor was a she-cat
