What rule was it that said: “Thou shall not trespass onto clan territory? Oh that’s right, none! There was no rule anywhere that this cat was aware of that said: “Thou shall not trespass onto clan territory!” And if there was, well then this cat obviously wasn’t informed. So instead he just went where he wanted, into Clan territory, around the boarders, and sometimes a little beyond. But that was only out of curiosity and the need for adventure.
Yellow eyes peered around the trunk of a large tree. They looked this way and that before the rest followed. A light brown tabby pelt made its way around the tree, careful not to brush up against it, and over to another. 'Thar couldn’t be anythin’ more pleasin’,' He thought, ‘Than bein’ where yer not s’pposed to.’ This always led to trouble though. And when did it not? He was a loner, and not really like by all cats of the clans. This didn’t bother him however.
Being alone in what the clan cats called 'Acorn Place' he sang quietly and softly to himself as he walked along the forest floor,
"Oh, the days of the Kerry dancing Oh, the ring of the piper's tune Oh, for one of those hours of gladness Gone, alas, like our youth, too soon!"
The young tom thought often about this song. It was the one his mother always sang to him before he went to sleep. Ah, the days when his mother would sing to him those songs he couldn’t almost remember. Why does it seem like every kits’ mother has to leave their young when they know they aren’t ready! ‘Maybe tha’s what she did, left her kit to care for ‘imself? Well I’m right foin wi’t me. You can leave yer child tu starve tu death. Tis not like ‘e didn’t wait fer ya or noothin’! A-‘ Just then an acorn fell from the tree he was sitting on, silently grumbling to himself about his mother leaving him, and landed it’s sharp end on his paw. “OI!” He exclaimed, “Watch where yer droppin’ yer bloody fruit there! Can’t ye tell when someone standin’ right beneath ya?” His voice was a little high-pitched and had a heavy accent. 'Ack, now Finnegan, ya can’t go off like tha’ and be talkin’ to a tree. It’s just ain't right!’ He mentally scolded himself. Looking at his paw he licked it to check for blood, thankfully the acorn’s point was dulled and there wasn’t much damage. “Well, tha’s pretty bang on for a tree. ‘it me right in the foot ‘e did!” Finnegan mrowed(?) with laughter, to no one particular, at this before testing his paw and moving on, light footed and pleased with himself over nothing…

Today was not a great day for hunting. Sure the skies were heavenly, with clear blue patches amongst pale grays of clouds, but Silverclaw’s confused thoughts swirled in her head and she was distracted. She crashed through the undergrowth with volume that would have made her mentor cringe and possibly faint. Brambles snagged at her coat as she rushed on. Her quick mind was plotting out how exactly she was to eliminate Creektwist from the deputy position. Would she cold-bloodedly kill him herself? No, there must be another way. Hmm…
Silverclaw lumbered on, a pale misty gray speck amongst the dark pine greens of the forest. Its darkness embraced her; what little light that filtered in cast circles of white on her dark pelt. Nearing the Acorn Place, she hoped she was early enough that no cats were out hunting yet. It would be fatal for her to be there, plotting murder, and having her Clan mates intrude. She emerged into a clearing, her ears pricked for sounds. Her amber eyes narrowed as her ears detected a faint warbling noise. She crept closer and thought she could hear someone… singing. A snort of contempt escaped her as she bounded closer. Her amber eyes fastened onto the dark and sleek tabby coat of another cat, who was quietly humming to himself. She sniffed warily and detected no scent of any Clan. Loner. Or kittypet. But from how relaxed he seemed, he could honestly be either.
The silvery she-cat was about to snarl at him for trespassing when she hesitated. Why should she care if he intruded or not? It wasn’t as if she weren’t going to be exiled from her Clan anyways. And how many times had she trespassed on other Clans’ lands before? Right, as many times as there were stars in the heavens. Her uncertain paws padded forward a bit. She was surprised that the loner/kittypet did not notice her presence. Instead he seemed fascinated (or rather annoyed) by an acorn. He examined his paws and began chuckling and chortling words thick with an accent she could not identify.
Here her confusion deepened. Obviously there was another cat around whom he was laughing with. But why hadn’t she smelt the other? Her nose twitched and her jaw widened. Again she sniffed heartily. Her eyes swept the length of the clearing but saw nothing. “Excuse me, but are you talking to yourself?” she queried politely, though her words were rather rude.

Yes, he dose that quite frequently. Many times a day, in fact. But Finnegan couldn’t get used to how many cats were actually in the area. Several cats must have passed them him by, by now that in his talking to himself he hadn’t noticed them. Spinning around, after not getting very far, in the first place, his bright yellow eyes were filled with shock, but, that quickly vanished when he saw the pale-silver tabby she-cat. Lifting his nose to the light breeze, and sniffed around for signs of other cats – in case he was to be forced off the territory. If that would be the case then he would go willingly and spend his day elsewhere instead of among the beautiful acorn trees. Detecting no one he smiled and flicked his ears at some bug that was buzzing in his ear.
“I always talk to meself, Miss.” Finnegan mewed happily with a smile. Both ears pricked up, and his tail twitched. He was getting a little uncomfortable talking to this she-cat already. She had the scent of AspenClan just dripping from her pelt. But the day was so lovely that Finnegan wasn’t in the mood to argue with anyone, including this she-cat.“Well, now oi suspect tha’ yer gonna want me off yer territr’y,”He started,“Well I’ll be goin’ on my way.” Finnegan was sure of this, but he had no intention of leaving the territory. Maybe he’d go to that lovely lake? Or the path and go for a lovely walk along it instead of in the Acorn trees…

Ottermask had watched the exchange from a low branch of one tree. A soft growl murmured within her throat as Silverclaw had not scared the intruder off. She was strong enough, especially compared to the lithe loner. Claws dug into the dark bark, the color blending in with her own coat minus the yellow color of her eyes. Ottermask might have been the quiet one among the clan, but she was fiercely loyal, she did not tolerate trespassers. Especially ones that seemed somewhat cozy within her territory. Muscles bunched as she leapt down from the tree landing lightly upon the earth. Slowly the brown she-cat crept forth, stepping out from behind a bush to greet the two. Eyes the color of a waxed moon scanned the two.
Trying to sound welcoming the she-cat nodded a greeting to Silverclaw, "Hello Silverclaw,"she said greeting her clan mate, attention turning towards the intruder she nodded a polite greeting to him as well, "Hello, I am Ottermask, and you are?"she asked trying to discretion who the newcomer was. Shaking out the she-cat tried to fluff up her fur a bit, aiming to stay warm in the cooler temperatures. She cared little what the intruder did, as long as he meant to leave Aspenclan territory. They did not need anymore loners taking up residence, it was bad enough to have Raggedclaws within the territory, not another one now. Flicking her tail she flicked her gaze between the warrior and intruder, she doubted Silverclaw cared what happened, the she-cat was not exactly popular within the clan these days, and while Ottermask did not have many friends, she was not exactly shunned.
The chocolate hued she-cat sat down, long tail curling around her body so it nearly touched the base of her tail again. She waited patiently for one to speak, there was another part of Ottermask that worried if Silverclaw were left alone with the loner she might give away secrets of Aspenclan. Yet she would not pass judgement yet, perhaps this cats intentions held no malice, only curiosity.

Silverclaw gave a cool nod at the loner’s words. She studied the happy, almost lopsided grin gracing his pale amber face. The golden tabby promised to leave the lands, but something in his voice didn’t quite ring true. Or maybe because it was so typical of loners to disregard Clan boundaries, if they even knew what they were. She inclined her head again, slowly though. It didn’t matter one way or another to her. A small noise came from an overhanging tree branch. Her ears flicked towards it but she did not turn. Most likely it was some insignificantly tiny squirrel rooting through the leaves for acorns. Squirrels made a delicious meal, but Silverclaw didn’t do like moving vertically. Scaling trees and balancing were things she simply had not yet learned.
Whatever creature had been emitting the rustling sounds stopped. Pale eyes the color of the sun regarded the silver she-cat. Now she turned swiftly to see a golden brown Warrior emerge from behind a bush. Silverclaw dipped her head in acknowledgement of the other’s greeting, but said nothing. She was not yet sure what she thought of Ottermask. Ottermask was simply another Warrior cluttering up the expanding Clan. The tawny she-cat ignored her menial greeting and politely introduced herself to the loner. Brief puzzlement flitted through Silverclaw; wasn’t Ottermask the more loyal and fierce sort? Vaguely, she meowed, “Oh, uh, Tabbysinger here is just on his way out, isn’t that right?” She had no intention of defending the odd intruder and yet she distrusted the strange gleam in Ottermask’s amber eyes.
Silverclaw strolled over, closer to the tabby loner. She paused when she was about a tail-length’s away, her hind paws crackling on the stiff, dead leaves that smothered the ground. She curled her front paw and held it out in front of her, as if she was aiming to shoo off the trespasser. But her paw was frozen in its motion, forming a barrier unable to be penetrated between the two cats. She withdrew said paw, realizing how silly it looked, crooked like that. She glanced at the other she-cat, who simply watched the two interact with a slight amusement. The monochromatic pelted Warrior narrowed her dark eyes at Ottermask, trying to read her blank expression. She seemed to be waiting for something, but for what she had no clue. “Yes…?” she prompted. “Well okay. Here, loner, let me show you the way out of our territory oh just get out already!” As if from a cue of Ottermask’s Silverclaw’s offer turned into a snarl at the end. She bared sharp fangs menacingly and stalked forward, heading towards the SoulClan border, a place she frequented often. Her silver-splashed tail waved in the air as if blown from a breeze, signaling for the intruder to follow.

He thought she was very pretty, her sleek brown fur, and her yellow eyes. She almost reminded him of his mother. Only lighter in color and with tabby stripes! Ah how he missed her sometimes. He tried not think much about her when he was around tabby she-cats. But sometimes he couldn’t help himself, and he knew it. 'Tabbysinger?' He thought, ‘Who would ever name their kit that? And why does this she-cat, this Silverclaw, not greet her clan mate? Is there hostility?’ As these thoughts ran through his head, Finnegan didn’t take notice that Ottermask was waiting on something to happen, and he didn’t notice that Silverclaw felt rather uncomfortable about his being here. Or that there was an edge in his voice, which he himself hadn’t even bothered t take notice of.
After a while, the conversation registered, “Oh, aye, I twas just on me way out!” Finnegan made no move to prove that is what he was doing. Silverclaw had just said it to say to say, according to him, to keep her out of trouble with conversing with a loner. He switched his gaze to Silverclaw who had moved forward and stick her paw out awkwardly. His ears pricked forward and curiosity flickered in his eyes. What was she doing? That was the funniest position he had ever seen from a cat! He held back a laugh, but he smiled on, amusement danced in his yellow orbs. When Silverclaw put her back in its rightful place he watched her for a moment longer. Before turning to Ottermask, “Me name’s Finnegan! Finnegan Fitz-” “Well okay. Here, loner, let me show you the way out of our territory oh just get out already!” He dipped his head in goodbye to Ottermask, not doubting that she wouldn’t want accompany them to the SoulClan border if indeed that is where they were going, and he turned to follow Silverclaw.
Finnegan said nothing more but thought of the rest of the words to the song his mother used to sing softly to him:
When the boys began to gather In the glen of a summer's night And the Kerry piper's tuning Made us long with wild delight! Oh, to think of it Oh, to dream of it Fills my heart with tears!
Where his mother picked that up he had no idea. Maybe it was just imagination and years of listening to the Irish neighbors and their wild imaginations.

The quirky, strange-cultured loner bestowed Ottermask with a wide, beaming grin. His expression seemed neutral, but there was something – what was it – longing perhaps, that lingered within. There was sorrow and regret laced in his gaze, and sudden pangs reverberated within Silverclaw’s tiny heart – pangs of longing for her own family. For a heartbeat, she let her guard down, her dark orbs brimming with sadness. Then she composed herself, flicking a haughty tail over her shoulder. She turned as the stranger replied in his garbled accent, her ears flicking like one would twitch one’s nostrils around a kittypet. She gazed at him in an even sort of way and meowed vaguely, “Then come along. Mice aren’t caught by waiting for them to approach.”
She was quoting an old phrase she had once heard an elder mutter. It was during her stay in AspenClan, she believed. She was moping around camp, her heart wrenching and fluttering at the thought of her loneliness, for this was the moon she had caught the rumors that she was not born in AspenClan. The elder, a burly ginger tom with flecks of marigold in his fur, had watched her depression with scorn, sniffing that there were better things to accomplish than simply moping about. Despite this rudeness, it inspired her to take action to get what she desired. But somehow, I don’t think he meant it this way, a small voice reminded her. Quickly, she shoved these doubts away. She was certain that removing Creektwist from his deputy position and controlling SoulClan was the only way to discover her roots.
As her thoughts wrapped themselves up into a neat little package to store away deep into her mind, she caught the last of the loner’s words. Finnegan. A name at last, and one of those odd names that Twolegs sometimes gave to their pitiful kittypets. She gave a snort of contempt but there was no true scorn behind it. Silverclaw darted a furtive glance at him. For reasons yet unknown to herself, she found that she seemed to prefer his company to the majority of those in her Clan. Or maybe, she just really despised her Clan, which was much more likely. “Soo… ah… Figgan is it? What parts do you come from?” she inquired, her tone surprising polite without much effort. Usually she wore a forced smile but now it was slow and natural.
The silver-tipped she-cat’s hind paws kicked off as she sprang neatly over a fissure cutting through the leaf-strewn forest floor. Her front paws grasped the tussocks of grass beneath her as she turned to warn the loner of the danger. “Careful there!” she called hastily, hoping her words of caution had been executed early enough so that he would be able to react. She gave a nimble leap to the right in case she was blockading his entry onto this side. Her claws shredded the blades of emerald green grass, her dark eyes forming arcs to calculate whether or not his leap would enable him to reach the opposite side without tumbling down into the chasm below.

With Silverclaw in the lead he didn’t feel the need to worry. At least he wouldn’t be at the head should he trip over a rock, or vine, or something of the sort. Of course that was still highly possible, only being a one year old was hard! Especially when you were alone with no one to talk too much these days. Come to think of it he never really had many friends! And also come to think of it he had never been introduced to anyone by his mother, who had abandoned him by the way, and then there nothing to ‘come to think of’. This was disappointing to Finnegan, because, he liked coming up with something to talk about and- “Soo… ah… Figgan is it? What parts do you come from?"
“Aye!” He exclaimed as he tripped over a rock, “Muther Nature sure knows how ta pull one over on ya!” His R’s rolled out smoothly, probably he was back to the one on one with Silverclaw instead of with the other she-cat, what was her name? Ah well. What’s it matter anyways? He thought before quickening his pace to catch up with Silverclaw, “Aye, tha it tis! But you can call me Finny. Everyone does.” Everyone… suppose that only meant himself and his mother. “Oi come from o’er there where the up-walkers and their kiddy’s live all year round.” He pointed with his tail towards SoulClan territory, An’ yer part of the group of cats live ain’t ya? Oi can smell it in yer fur.” He watched the she-cat jump the chasm and land safely on the other side. The young cat tilted his head and came up to the edge. It wasn’t as far as he thought it would have been. Still he hesitated. “Are ya sure about this, Lass?” He said, looking across at Silverclaw, "Looks mighty!" He stopped there because he wasn’t sure what should have come after mighty. His yellow eyes blinked at the grass on the other side. It looked pleasing, maybe something he could come back to later when no one else was around. Taking a deep breath he launched himself over the small gap in the earth and landed safely… well, almost. When he landed he lost his balance and his paws crumbled underneath him making him land in an awkward position.
Quickly, though, he rolled over and landed on his paws, “Musta over shot tha’ by a few rat-tails…” Maybe more! He grinned at Silverclaw, “So, where are ya taken’ me?” He asked, prepared to follow her… wherever.
